International Conference on Marine/Maritime Spatial Planning

In 2006, UNESCO held the first International Workshop on the use of Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) as a tool to implement ecosystem-based, sea use management. The workshop was a cooperative initiative between UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC-UNESCO) and the Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB).

Since 2017, the IOC-UNESCO organise the International Conference on Marine/Maritime Spatial Planning together with the Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the European Commission (DG MARE).
