Multiple-Use Marine Protected Area established in 2006; 15-year Management Plan (including zoning) approved in 2008; designation as Particularly Sensitive Sea Area (PSSA) adopted in 2008; a World Heritage Marine Area inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2010; commercial fishing phased out in 2011; boundary expansion in 2016, now covering 13% of the EEZ of USA; revised management plan by 2019.
