Main issued that led to the adoption of MSP (drivers) |
GOAL 1: To organize and reconcile the activities currently developed in our marine territory, giving predictability to these and new activities in the future; taking into account the importance of biodiversity and the ecological processes that sustain life in the Argentine Sea, with a multisectoral, ecosystemic and participatory approach.
GOAL 2: To promote the creation of an inter-institutional arrangement, the instruments and resources necessary for the resolution of current conflicts and the foresight of new ones, based on the principles of sustainability. |
Stakeholder engagement activities |
Meetings for the presentation of the project, technical consultation on required data. In all cases this was done jointly and, in addition, with each sector in particular.
Participative workshops were planned at different stages of the MSP process to present progress and discuss the results. |

Articulation between MSP and coastal zone management |
Attempts have been made in the country to articulate IMCZ-MSP, such as the Federal Strategy for Integrated Coastal Management. |
Articulation between MSP and marine protected areas |
Within the Pampa Azul Initiative, there are priority geographic areas. For example, Burdwood Bank, which in 2013 was declared as the first marine protected area(MPA Namuncurá) with a management plan that contemplates zoning by conservation values and use sand activities. Also, since 2018 there is the Yagane sMarine Protected Area, located south of the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego and adjacent to the international boundary with the Republic of Chile. This area has its management plan in preparation. In addition to this, there are coastal-marine MPAs such as the Patagonia Austral Interjurisdictional Marine-Coastal Park, whose management plan is being worked on the analysis of uses, activities and conflicts. |
Articulation between MSP and blue economy |
Within the Pampa Azul Initiative, the sustainable blue economy constitutes one of its pillars, with the area of Technological Development and Innovation. The basis is to consider that the economic exploitation of marine resources requires the development of technologies that combine productive efficiency with sustainable use approaches. Pampa Azul seeks to advance in research, development and innovation that contribute to safety and social, economic and environmentally sustainable development with a focus on technological innovation, social inclusion with a gender perspective, the protection of marine natural assets and the integration of marine and coastal environments, as well as to promote capacity building in scientific disciplines and related technological areas. An example of this is the recent creation of the Argentine Marine Energy Network(REMA), which aims to research and promote the wave and hydrokinetic energy potential of the entire Argentine maritime front. |

Legal framework
To date, Argentina does not have specific legislation on the subject. However, there is a profuse number of sectorial regulations related to the MSP that constitutes an indispensable input for this.
