Event Details
The Priority Actions Programme/Regional Activity Centre (PAP/RAC), established in 1977, is one of the six Regional Activity Centres of the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP), itself part of UN Environment. Twenty-one Mediterranean countries as well as the European Union make up the MAP, and their common objective is the creation of a healthier Mediterranean environment, resting on the principle of sustainable development.
Through its geographical scope, PAP/RAC will be a key partner of the MSPglobal Initiative and its pilot project in the West Mediterranean. A series of joint trainings on MSP – of which this is the first – will be organized by IOC-UNESCO and PAP/RAC throughout the duration of the project to strengthen institutional capacities in the region.
More precisely, this training workshop will seek to familiarize participants with the basic tools, methods and concepts for MSP implementation. It aims to support the establishment of a common basis and understanding across the Mediterranean region regarding the implementation of MSP within the UN Environment/MAP’s Barcelona Convention system and share best practices and lessons learned from MSP implementation in the region and beyond. The meeting will also allow participants to exchange experiences on existing national frameworks and encourage processes to move forward better integration of policies at different levels.
In the context of MSPglobal and with the support of the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the MSP Challenge game will be used with all participants during a half-day session.
