Global Maritime Spatial Planning Forum in Riga

The Maritime/Marine Spatial Planning Forum: Global Meets Regional (MSPforum) will take place on 19-21 November 2019 in Riga, Latvia. It will gather more than 300 participants from all over the globe with the aim to promote transnational cooperation in Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) and exchange planning practices from a global and regional perspective.

The “MSPforum: Global Meets Regional” serves as a joint event for the 4th International MSPforum, the 3rd Baltic MSP Forum as well as the closing conference of the Pan Baltic Scope project. It is jointly organized by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, VASAB and the Pan Baltic Scope project co-funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund of the European Union, with the collaboration of the University of Latvia.

More than 300 participants with a broad spectrum of backgrounds and expertise in MSP will join the event. Among them will be maritime spatial planners, national authorities and institutions responsible for MSP, international organisations, EU institutions, academia and research institutions, MSP stakeholders – coastal municipalities, energy, shipping and transport, environment, cultural heritage sectors – as well as students and young spatial planning professionals.

The MSPforum in Riga will be a platform where global MSP will meet regional MSP experience on planning across borders and sectors. It will allow to explore how countries around the world have developed and implemented their maritime spatial plans and what future challenges await. During the Forum, interactive workshops, plenaries and key-note speakers will highlight global and regional MSP topics, including the results and findings of the Pan Baltic Scope collaboration.

In addition, this MSPforum will open up a space for young planning professionals who will join  the youth plenary to describe their point of view on the future of MSP.

The “MSPforum: Global Meets Regional” will take place on 19-21 November at the Academic Centre of the University of Latvia in Tornakalns. Participation with registration only. More information about the MSPforum, agenda and application form can be found on the web page: www.panbalticscope.eu/mspforum.
